Because sometimes you need a friend on the path to a happier you.
Join me for the 2019 Rise + Shine Mom Read-Along! We’re reading The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin.
If you’ve talked to me for any length of time, I’ve probably asked you if you’ve heard of Gretchen Rubin and if you love, love, love her as much as I do?
The Happiness Project has been around for 10 years now and to be honest, I poo-pooed it for 9 of the last 10 years. “Gah – Why does this lady want to try to make me happier?!” I’m a late adopter by nature. I like to sit back and watch other people figure it out and then I can learn from their success and failure. Truly not my best quality. I have a tendency to be NO, NO, NO until all of a sudden I am a big fat YES.
Side note – I felt this way about podcasts too.
2017 Candis – NO WAY!
2018 Candis – “OMG! Have you heard about such and such podcast? It’s amazing!”
I seriously listen to podcasts all day long now. Most of my stories begin with “I was listening to this Podcast and they said…” But I digress.
I was introduced to the Happier Podcast with Gretchen Rubin when she was a guest on Leanne Vogel’s “The Keto Diet Podcast” (also really good if you’re into the Keto diet). Gretchen was compelling in the interview so I figured “what the hey, might as well try it out.” I was hooked. I binged the first 170 episodes. I may have cried a little when I was finally caught up and couldn’t listen 24/7.
I have read Gretchen’s books “Better Than Before” and “The Four Tendencies.” (BTW – I’m a Questioner, hence why I am no, no, no, YES!) And despite my rabid Gretchen fangirling, I haven’t really read The Happiness Project. I’ve listened to it as an audiobook, but I’ve always wanted to do a month-by-month thorough read and implement some of her suggestions.
Part of the problem stems from my greater problem of perfectionism. I put off reading the book earlier because I couldn’t stomach reading it “out of order” (i.e., not in the month by month format of the book). I clearly forgot what Gretchen (also Voltaire, but I don’t fangirl over him as much) always says, “Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good!” Now that 2019 looms before me, it’s time to get this show on the road.
